Several times, Naidu and the Satyagrahis approached the salt works,
before being turned back by police.
Naidu was aware that violence against the Satyagrahis was a threat,
and warned them,"You must not use any violence under any circumstances.
In each village through which the Satyagrahis marched, they attracted massive crowds-
with as many of 30,000 people gathering to see the pilgrims pray and to hear Gandhi speak of the need for self-rule.
