I almost coughed up my Pleura last night.
The right and left Pleurae, which enclose the right and left lungs, respectively, are
separated by the mediastinum.
Cancer of the right lung, having metastases in the Pleura, also manifests itself with pain on the right.
The Pleura is the tissue covering the lungs
and the wall of the chest cavity which cushions and protects the lungs.
It has been suggested that in humans, transport of fibers to the Pleura is critical to the pathogenesis of mesothelioma.
This could be a sign of a problem with your lungs, Pleura, heart or other illness that require prompt medical attention.
You might have a problem with your lungs, heart or Pleura or an underlying illness for which you need prompt medical care.
In the animal experiments,
the investigators placed long carbon nanotubes in the Pleura, the area around the lungs where mesothelioma develops in humans.
Spread to the following areas- the chest wall, the muscle under the lung(diaphragm), the phrenic nerve,
or the layers that cover the heart(mediastinal Pleura and parietal pericardium).
Mesothelioma that affects the Pleura can cause these signs and symptoms:
Chest wall pain Pleural effusion, or fluid surrounding the lung Shortness of breath Fatigue or anemia Wheezing, hoarseness, or a cough Blood in the sputum(fluid) coughed up(hemoptysis) In severe cases, the person may have many tumor masses.
Thus, fracture of the rib can lead tothe development of complications,
60% of patients with fractures damage the internal organs and Pleura, which is a danger to life,
40% of patients have mild fractures, which usually heal within a month and do not require special treatment. In some cases, a fracture can cause death, since a broken rib can damage the vital organs of a person.
