Medroxyprogesterone is either injected into a muscle(Depo-Provera®) or under the skin(SAYANA PRESS®).
Medroxyprogesterone acetate commonly abbreviated as MPA, is a steroidal progestin,
a synthetic variant of the steroid hormone progesterone.
There are other medicine leaflets
available which will give you more information about Medroxyprogesterone when it is used for these reasons.
While Medroxyprogesterone is sometimes used as a synonym for Medroxyprogesterone acetate,[3] what is
almost always being referred to is MPA and not MP.
If you are having any medical tests you should tell the
person doing the test that you are using Medroxyprogesterone as a contraceptive.
If you are having the Medroxyprogesterone injection after recently giving birth, your
doctor will advise you on the best time to have the injection.
If risk factors deem women ineligible,
progestogens may be used to induce bleeds to protect the endometrium(eg, Medroxyprogesterone 10 mg daily for 7-10 days every three months).
If you wish to try for a baby you may find that it
can take up to a year after stopping using Medroxyprogesterone injection before you are able to conceive,
although this takes different times in different women.
