The Chalukya- Rashtrakuta Lingas are of a different type.
Are there other Lingas in the world or is it a science limited to Indian culture?
Lakkundi is also noted for its veiled wells,
artistically built with decorated enclosures enshrining Lingas inside the walls.
If you are not aware of this, in southern India,
there are five Lingas for the five elements in nature.
On the advice of her sister,
Ghushma used to make 101 Lingas, worship them and discharge them in the near by lake.
The primary image as all these Lingas is the“lingam” representing the beginning
and end stambh pillar or the infinite nature of Lord Shiva.
If we make five elements, because of the
yogic system and understanding of the science, we would make five different Lingas of five different types.
Many people believe that you can see these Lingas as columns of fire piercing through the earth after you reach
a high level of spiritual attainment.
If I had wanted to create seven separate Lingas for seven chakras, that would have been so much easier,
but the impact would not have been the same.
Tanginath temple, the ancient Shiva temple and its hill top premises,
where there are innumerable Lingas and images of deities, is venerated as the seat of the God.
