In October 1918, it was already obvious that Germany was losing the war,
and the Finnish troops occupied the Rebol region in Karelia.
Founded on September 11, 1703 at the behest of Peter the Great, as his iron foundry and cannon factory,
the city has grown to be Karelia's capital.
