After the mid-19th century, railways linked all the major cities of Europe to spa towns like Biarritz, Deauville, Vichy, Arcachon and the FrenchRiviera.
Although initially founded and developed in the 19th century, it was in
the early 20th century that the second wave of development took place in Deauville, including the renowned boardwalk along the coast, the sophisticated casino, and
the grand hotels- the Hotel Normandy and the Royal Hotel, and the golf course.
