Up till now 8 Cartosat satellites have been launched by ISRO.
The Cartosat series is a part of the Indian Remote Sensing Programme.
Along with Cartosat, 13 small Nanosatellites from the US were also placed in their orbits.
The later versions are named based on their area of application including OceanSat, Cartosat, ResourceSat.
Modi described one of the 104 satellites, Cartosat 2D, as extremely important, particularly for farmers.
The 710-kg earth observation
satellite the PSLV is carrying the third in the Cartosat 2 series.
Introduction: ISRO has launched series of polar orbiting Remote sensing satellites IRS, Resoursat, Cartosat and RISAT.
Just over 16 minutes into the flight,
the PSLV rocket ejected Cartosat at an altitude of around 510 km.
PSLV-C38/ Cartosat-2 Series Satellite June 23,2017 PSLV-XL The Cartosat will provide remote sensing services for about five years.
The 13 satellites used by the military for surveillance include Cartosat 1 and 2 series and Risat-1 and Risat-2.
Speaking on achievements in the space sector, the Prime Minister mentioned the success of Cartosat 2 and other satellites.
He also added,“The sixth Cartosat in 2A series and other satellites are being integrated
with the rocket at the spaceport.
Cartosat-2E is an Earth observation satellite
developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation(ISRO), and is the seventh in the Cartosat series.
The 30 satellites will together weigh 243 kg and the total weight of all the 31 satellites, including Cartosat, is about 955kg.
Prior to the Chandrayaan-2 mission, she has also been deputy project director of India's
first remote sensing satellite project Cartosat 1 and Oceansat-2 project.
The first Cartosat satellite was Cartosat-1 which was launched by PSLV-C6,
on May 5, 2005 from the then newly built Second Launch Pad at Sriharikota.
It will have a panchromatic
resolution of 0.25 metres and Mx of 1 metre which is a major improvement from the previous payloads in the Cartosat series.
