Taking anticoagulants- medications that help stop your blood clotting,
such as warfarin, Rivaroxaban, or dabigatran.
Rivaroxaban, sold under the brand name Xarelto among others, is
a blood thinner which is taken by mouth.
Your dentist may suggest that you stop your Rivaroxaban for 2 to 3 days before you have your tooth out.
If you have atrial fibrillation(or certain other heart conditions), an anticoagulant medicine(such as warfarin, dabigatran,
apixaban or Rivaroxaban) may be prescribed.
Rivaroxaban is associated with lower rates
of serious and fatal bleeding events than warfarin though Rivaroxaban is associated with higher rates of bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract.
Rivaroxaban powder has a boxed warning to make
clear that people using the drug should not discontinue it before talking with their health care professional, because it can increase the risk of stroke.
