King Rehoboam made himself a strong king in Jerusalem.
But Rehoboam didn't accept the advice the elders gave him.
So King Rehoboam asked these men what he should do.
Rehoboam's father was Solomon, who reigned in Israel for 40 years.
Hence, Jehovah rescued Rehoboam and Jerusalem from destruction. - 2 Chron.
Rehoboam had told the people,“Come back to me in three days.”.
They said to Rehoboam, 4‘Your father caused us to work too much.

But Rehoboam also went to the young men who grew up with him and served him.

Early in the reign of Solomon's son Rehoboam, ten tribes rebelled and formed the northern kingdom of Israel.
And they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and they confirmed Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, for three years.
Then Jeroboam, and the entire people, went to Rehoboam on the third day, just as he had instructed them.

Solomon died in 997 B.C. E. Then Rehoboam traveled north from Jerusalem to Shechem to be anointed as king.

According to that verse, upon Solomon's death his son Rehoboam became king at age 41, his mother being“ Naamah the Ammonitess.”.

and Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse;
It happened, when the kingdom of Rehoboam was established,
and he was strong, that he forsook the law of Yahweh, and all Israel with him.
Asa, Rehoboam's grandson, summoned people of Judah to construct
the cities of Geba and Mizpah, and“ there was none exempt.” - 1 Kings 15: 22.
Of the 19 kings who follow Rehoboam, 5 are faithful,
3 start out well but become unfaithful, and one turns around from his wrong course.
