How do you know so much about Punxsutawney?
From Punxsutawney… this is Phil Connors.
The Punxsutawney Library.
It was not filmed in Punxsutawney, but in Woodstock, Illinois.
I will be in Punxsutawney for our country's oldest groundhog festival.
Punxsutawney Phil is a groundhog believed to be
capable of forecasting the weather.
Ironically, the movie was not filmed in Punxsutawney, but rather in Woodstock, Illinois.
This February 2, at 7:20 and 30 seconds… Punxsutawney Phil, the seer of seers… prognosticator of prognosticators.
This February 2nd, at 7:20 and 30 seconds, Punxsutawney Phil, the seer of seers, prognosticator of prognosticators.
No. This February 2nd, at 7:20 and 30 seconds, Punxsutawney Phil, the seer of seers, prognosticator of prognosticators.
This February 2nd, at 7:20 and 30 seconds… Punxsutawney Phil, the seer of seers… prognosticator of prognosticators… emerged reluctantly.
This February 2nd, at 7:20 and 30 seconds… Punxsutawney Phil… the seer of seers… prognosticator of prognosticators… emerged reluctantly.
But a snowstorm strikes, he's stuck in Punxsutawney, and when he wakes up the next morning,
it is Groundhog Day again.
Punxsutawney Phil is no stranger to the news,
considering he's been in the spotlight every year on February 2(Groundhog Day) since 1887 to predict the upcoming spring weather.
Punxsutawney Phil lives most of the year at the Punxsutawney Library
and is only taken to Gobbler's Knob to emerge from his climate controlled burrow for the Groundhog Day celebration.
In the movie Groundhog Day(if you haven't seen it), Bill Murray plays a narcissistic TV weatherman,
who is sent to Punxsutawney, PA to report whether the groundhog,
Punxsutawney Phil, sees his shadow.
The most famous of all groundhogs on Groundhog Day, Punxsutawney Phil, who supposedly has been predicting
weather since 1887(in truth groundhogs only live about 3-6 years in the wild and 10-14 in captivity, so he's been replaced many times over the years) only has been accurate about 39% of the time.
As to why a specific Groundhog in Punxsutawney was chosen,
the story goes(take it with a grain of salt, in terms of whether this is actually how it happened) that the editor of the Punxsutawney Spirit newspaper, Clymer H. Freas, was inspired by a groundhog hunt and ensuing barbeque, with the hunters looking to determine the weather, that he went on.
