Pudsey St Lawrence Cricket Club.
Neither Pudsey nor any other nursery could have claimed
Herbert Sutcliffe as a typical product.
He formed an ambition to follow his father and two uncles and play for Pudsey St Lawrence.
By 1914,
Sutcliffe had become the most accomplished player in the Bradford League in which Pudsey Britannia played.
The first three of these schools at Allerton High School, Pudsey Grangefield School
and Rodillian School were opened in September 2008.
In 1911, now aged 16, Sutcliffe switched his allegiance to the rival Pudsey Britannia club where, he is quoted
as saying,“my batting improved by leaps and bounds”.
He practised in the playground of Littlemoor Council School,
which he attended from 1921 until 1930, and at Pudsey St Lawrence Cricket Club, which he joined as a junior.
One weekend during Sunday League football, a Leeds
scout spotted a frisky 10- year- old on the parks of Pudsey and invited him for a four-
week trial at the club' s Centre of Excellence based at their ground in Ferndale.
