From 11 to 13 weeks of pregnancy,
a special ultrasound scan called a Nuchal translucency(NT) scan can be performed.
Certain abnormalities, such as an increased amount of fluid around the back of babies neck(Nuchal translucency), which may be a sign of Down's Syndrome,
may also be detected at this stage.
Findings that indicate increased risk when seen at 14 to 24 weeks of gestation include a small or no nasal bone,
large ventricles, Nuchal fold thickness, and an abnormal right subclavian artery,
If a woman books later in pregnancy(when Nuchal translucency is not as accurate,
or if it is not technically possible to measure it) the quadruple test can be taken between 14 + 2 to 20 + 0 weeks of gestation.
