Mahadev Devanur(Kannada) and Joseph Macwan(Gujarati), in their novels,
deal with the experience of violence, protest and exploitation.
In an official communique dated November 21, Macwan appealed to the Christians to organise prayer services in parishes
and convents"so that we may have such people elected to the Gujarat assembly, who would remain faithful to the Indian Constitution and respect every human being without any sort of discrimination".
In Gujarat, Mevani won his seat partly because the Congress did not nominate any candidate against him and the Congress jumped from two to seven SC seats, partly because
of organisations like the Dalit Shakti Kendra that dalit leaders like Martin Macwan have built in the course of several decades.
