Famous Chinese traveler and writer Hiuen Tsang visited this temple during his visit to India.
Hiuen Tsang, the famous chinese pilgrim to India,
stayed at Kannauj for 3 months in 636 AD.
When Hiuen Tsiang went there it was already in ruins
but it still sometimes emitted a brilliant light.
In the 7th century AD, Xuan Zhang(Hiuen Tsang), the Chinese monk,
recorded spotting many Hindu temples in Ayodhya.
Probably Hiuen Tsiang confused the two countries as Li-yul(Khotan)
and Lo-u-lo(Lahaul) in his estimate of distances, admittedly derived from hearsay.
Then, by the 7th century
AD the Chinese monk Xuan Zhang(Hiuen Tsang) recorded seeing a number of Hindu temples in Ayodhya.
Renowned Chinese pilgrims like Fahien, Hiuen Tsang and Itsing who visited this place
have left vivid accounts of the flourishing port city.
