The Estes Kefauver hearings.
I started teaching keyboard instruments in 1960 and by 1963 owned my own studios in Laurel, Maryland,
called“Estes Music Studios.”.
Jacob Estes had written a script for the film,
but the studio was considering taking it in a different direction from that draft and was seeking new writers.
In 1959, Senator Estes Kefauver began holding congressional hearings
into concerns about pharmaceutical industry practices, such as the perceived high cost and uncertain efficacy of many drugs promoted by manufacturers.
He visited Estes Park(the town where the park's headquarters are located) in 1872 for the purposes of
hunting and returned for two consecutive years before deciding he had to have it.
Performers such as Frank Stokes, Sleepy John Estes, Robert Wilkins,
Joe McCoy, Casey Bill Weldon and Memphis Minnie used a variety of unusual instruments such as washboard, fiddle, kazoo or mandolin.
After hearing recordings of his voice during the Estes Kefauver hearings of 1951,
which investigated organized crime which crossed state borders, Brando thought it would be perfect for the part, so when he gave his audition he stuffed his mouth with cotton balls in order to produce the muffled voice.
