According to James Cagney, several of the gangster films he worked on featured people
firing live rounds on film, often putting actors in serious risk of being shot.
Kirby was born Jacob Kurtzberg before changing his name to Jack Kirby,
which he reportedly chose because it reminded him of Jimmy Cagney, an actor he was fond of.
Cagney was later involved in forming the Screen Actors' Guild,
which was devoted to protecting actors from such life-threatening risks as a crazy director saying“Forget special effects, let's literally shoot this movie!”!
