One better understood genetic factor is a form of the Apolipoprotein E gene(APOE).
Such markers include fasting blood sugar,
hemoglobin A1C, Apolipoprotein B, and Apolipoprotein A-1, to name a few.
Apolipoprotein E(APOE) is a gene that's been
linked to the beginning of Alzheimer's symptoms in aged adults.
The researchers examined 101 people, all of whom were deemed at risk of developing Alzheimer's disease either because they had
a parent with the illness or because they had the Apolipoprotein E gene, which put them at a higher risk.
In this study, the scientists tested people without Alzheimer's or dementia- but they specifically chose individuals who were at higher risk for the disease, either because they had a parent with Alzheimer's or
because they carried a specific gene(the Apolipoprotein E gene), which is linked to the disease.
A 2006 study supported by the National Institute of Health and the USDA concluded that palm oil is not a safe substitute for partially hydrogenated(trans) fats in the food industry, because palm oil results in adverse
changes in the blood concentrations of LDL cholesterol and Apolipoprotein B just as trans-fat does.
