Over the past year, through the Russia Magnitsky and Global Magnitsky sanctions programs,
we have undertaken some of our most aggressive measures yet.
Then, in 2009, Sergei Magnitsky died in a Russian prison,
a man who, while working in a British company, discovered"massive corruption from Kremlin officials.".
With sanctions in place against 19 countries and
al Qaida, the government has adopted new legislation(including the Sergei Magnitsky Law) to complement the many other related pieces of
Canadian legislation to enable even more sanctions.
