Dana Vollmer, world-record holder and 2012 Summer Olympic gold-medal winner in the 100-meter butterfly event, became a champion swimmer despite
a condition that could have stopped her heart at any time.
He was also a gun enthusiast
and, while living with his family in Mexico City in 1951, played a drunken game of target practice with Vollmer and accidentally shot her to death.
Dana Vollmer, now 24, has already won a gold
medal and set a world record in her second Olympics- cleared of the heart condition that might have ended the dream if not for her strength, determination, and unsinkable support system.
