I was once in Tuva, Siberia, where they follow the Mongolian tradition of Tibetan Buddhism.
Kyzyl(Russian: Кызы́л, IPA:; Tuvan: Кызыл, translit. Kızıl, Tuvan pronunciation:) is the capital city of the Tuva Republic, Russia.
Says Maria,“ I am so happy that
seeds of truth have now reached the remotest parts of Tuva!” - Eccl.
From Tibet, it spread throughout the Himalayan regions and to Mongolia, Central Asia, and several regions
of Russia(Buryatia, Kalmykia and Tuva).
In 2012 it was the religion of 62% of the total population of Tuva, 38% of Kalmykia and 20% of Buryatia.
Besides the historical monastic traditions of Buryatia, Kalmykia and Tuva, Buddhism is now widespread all over Russia,
with many ethnic Russian converts.
Between 1919 and 1944,
there was an independent country called Tannu Tuva, but in 1944 it became part of the Soviet Union.
