If we were to believe the legend, then Delhi was a just a new
name given to the ancient kingdom of Indraprastha, and Tomaras began to rule in succession to the Pandavas.
Several feudatories of the empire took advantage of the temporary weakness of the Gurjara-Pratiharas to declare their independence, notably the Paramaras of Malwa, the Chandelas of Bundelkhand,
the Kalachuris of Mahakoshal, the Tomaras of Haryana, and the Chahamanas of Shakambhari.
