This plant is
known as“Haritaki” in Ayurveda, where the small, green fruit of the Terminalia chebula tree is used as medicine.
Major tree species of the area are tetrasperma, Dillenia indica, Bischofia javanica, Bombax ceiba,
Lagerstroemia parviflora, Terminalia myriocarpa, Mesua ferrea, Dalbergia sissoo, and Ficus.
With small, creamy white flowers in long spikes clustered towards the tips of the branches,
the Kakadu plum, Terminalia ferdiandiana, is just one of about 29
species of Terminalia found in Australia.
