British administration consisted of districts, which were divided into tehsils or Taluks.
The divisions were further sub-divided into Taluks and union panchayats or village committees.
For administrative purposes, Karnataka has been divided into four revenue divisions, 49
sub-divisions, 30 districts, 175 Taluks and 745 hoblies/ revenue circles.
Over 54,000 people were rescued in Ernakulam district, mainly in Paravur and Aluva Taluks which had witnessed heavy rains
and severe water logging in the past two days.
On 2 February 1970, three Taluks from Kurnool i.e., Markapur, Cumbum and Giddalur were
merged along with some other Taluks of Nellore district and Guntur district to form Prakasam district.

In Karanataka, 80 Taluks in 17 districts have been affected
due to floods and rains, and the state government has put the death toll at 42 and those missing at 12.
Under this initiative,
APD will host fortnightly/monthly health camps and residential camps in these Taluks and provide training to VRWs,
ASHA workers, ANMs(Auxiliary nurse midwife) and health officials at Taluk and PHC(Primary Health Care) levels.
This fund cut for NRDWP in the state came when the Karnataka government has declared total of 86 Taluks in 23 districts‘drought-affected' during the Kharif season in 2018,
and additional 14 Taluks in 9 districts declared as‘severely drought-affected'.
