not nuclear ships, not even nuclear submarines;
From 1881 until 1888,
Diego Garcia was the location of two coaling stations for Steamships crossing the Indian Ocean.
It contained news from Europe, the Americas, and the Subcontinent,
and was conveyed between India and Europe via regular Steamships.
Instead of hiring modern Steamships, which could make the crossing in as few as 18 days,
the Society chartered sailing ships, which took two months.
