Goffman's view on game theory was shaped by the works of Thomas Schelling.
In 2005, game theorists Thomas Schelling and Robert Aumann followed Nash, Selten
and Harsanyi as Nobel Laureates.
In 1801 Hegel
came to Jena with the encouragement of his old friend Schelling, who was Extraordinary Professor at the University there.
Nor was it, as in Schelling's earlier system,
to be a collateral progeny with mind from the same womb of indifference and identity.

In 1802, Schelling and Hegel founded a journal,
the Kritische Journal der Philosophie(Critical Journal of Philosophy), to which they each contributed pieces until the collaboration was ended when Schelling left for Würzburg in 1803.

Another philosophic influence came from the German idealism of Johann Gottlieb Fichte and
Friedrich Schelling, making Jena(where Fichte lived,
as well as Schelling, Hegel, Schiller and the brothers Schlegel) a center for early German Romanticism(see Jena Romanticism).
At a later date, with the call of Schelling to Berlin in 1841,
it became fashionable to speak of Hegelianism as a negative philosophy requiring to be complemented by a“positive” philosophy which would give reality and not mere ideas.
