    As Dr. Rubinow described, the hormones that stimulate the ovaries are increasing, and it is as if the restraint that the brain usually is under and stimulating the ovaries is removed, and in fact there may be a hormonal basis for that, so that there may be very high and very dramatic increases in estradiol(the major estrogen hormone in humans) secretion.

    And I think if a woman is identifying that she is experiencing the symptoms that Dr. Rubinow and I have described for, say, greater than two weeks and if the symptoms themselves are interfering with some aspects of her life, whether it be relationships or work performance, then I think that's a good red flag for when somebody should talk to their doctor.
