Why did Parashurama kill his mother?

Also known as Yellamma Devi Temple, it is associated with Renuka,
the wife of Jamadhagni and Parashurama's mother, whose story finds a mention in the Puranas,

After strong words between them, Rama strung an arrow on Parashurama's bow, and while shooting it in the direction of Parashurama,
he showed his cosmic form as the supreme being.
