What explains this increase in religious Nones?
Herkne eek, lo, which a sharpe word for the Nones,
In contrast, Nones make up only 15 percent of the electorate.
Finally, however, there are signs that Democrats are starting to appreciate the importance of the Nones.
However, in my view as a scholar of American religion, this misses the diversity within the Nones.
The Nones were in single digits a generation ago,
but now they are one of the largest and youngest religious demographics.
Despite the rapid increase in the
number of Americans who claim no religious affiliation, Nones remain a relatively small group within the American electorate.
In my view,
there are at least two areas in which the increase in the number of religious Nones may have a significant social impact in the coming years-
volunteerism and politics.
The Pew Research Center's 2014
Religious Landscape Study found that“Nones”(people who self-identify as atheists or agnostics, or say
their religion is“nothing in particular”) made up roughly 23 percent of the U.S. adult population.
Most of the public conversation about religious disaffiliation
tends to emphasize the idea that with the rise of the religious“Nones,” a categorization that goes back to the 1960s,
America is becoming more secular and less religious.
