In 1965, a comprehensive study of six sites, viz. Hospet, Goa, Salem, Neyveli, Bailadilla
and Visakhapatnam was made by the British and American Steel Consortium.
The Neyveli pig iron project was also included in the Plan,
which, it was expected, would pave the way for a steel plant in south India.
