Eulalia was martyred by the pagan Roman Emperor Maximian.
Maxentius' father, Maximian, was also subjected to damnatio memoriae
in 310AD by Emperor Constantine.
Together with other martyrs, he accepted death during the persecution of Christians by the Emperor Maximian.
It was decided to elect two other Caesars-
the choice fell on Constantius Chlorus and Galerius Maximian.
Maximian again tried to entice the holy martyr,
proposing marriage to her, and again he was refused.
However, Constantine changed his mind and Maximian was instead deified, essentially
making him a God in the eyes of the Roman people.

his rising status, Constantius divorced Helena some time before 289, when he married Theodora, Maximian's daughter.
