Rann is some 175 km northeast of Maiduguri, where some 35,000 people displaced by the militant
violence are sheltering.
Xinhua News Agency, Abuja, February 16th, Nigerian police said on the 16th that the
northern part of Borno State's capital, Maiduguri, was attacked by suspected Boko Haram armed men,
killing 11 people including the attackers.
Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, is the birthplace of
Boko Haram, whose nearly nine-year fight to establish an Islamic state in northeast Nigeria has claimed at least 20,000 lives and displaced more than two million people.
