Lucara then acquired African Diamonds in 2010 to
hold 100 percent of the asset.
The miner held a 70.3% stake in Boteti Exploration, which Lucara purchased from De Beers in 2009 for $49 million.
Lucara announced the sale of the Lesedi La Rona after the market closed Monday,
a day when its Toronto-listed shares slumped 1.7%.
Lucara saw potential,
and after further exploration it constructed the mine between 2010 and 2012, with commissioning and its first diamond sales starting in 2012.
Since introducing its XRT diamond recovery technology, Lucara has recovered 12 diamonds over 300 carats, the
company said, including a 472-carat and a 327-carat diamond in April 2018.
After completing an MBA through the Edinburgh Business School, Mr. Lamb joined the Lundin
Group(May 2008) and is now Chief Executive Officer and a Director of Lucara Diamond Corp.
Lucara set a company record of 0.76 million
tonnes of ore processed,"the best quarter in Karowe's history", and recovered 132,336 carats(including 10,899 carats recovered from re-processing historic recovery tailings from previous milling), achieving a recovered grade of 15.9 carats per hundred tonnes processed.
