The most combat-ready was Lieven's detachment(of a monarchist orientation),
he was perfectly equipped with the German authorities, and with his dressing and discipline resembled parts of the old army.
In January 1919, Lieven formed and led the Libava Volunteer Rifle Squad,
which together with the Baltic Landeswehr units at the end of May 1919 drove the Reds out of Riga.
