Kubera spent all his wealth.
Also, Lord Kubera, the God of assets and wealth is also worshipped on this day.
The idol of Kubera, the teasurer, wears a crown,
has a big stomach and wide hips, and is riding on a man.
It is on this day that Kubera worshipped Goddess Lakshmi
and thus was assigned the job of being the treasurer of Gods.
Although he took over Sri Lanka by force from his stepbrother Kubera, he was said to be the most influential Sri
Lankan ruler ever.
One indication of this is the Japanese"Seven Gods of Fortune", of which four originated as Hindu deities: Benzaitensama(Sarasvati),
Bishamon(Vaiśravaṇa or Kubera), Daikokuten(Mahākāla/Shiva), and Kichijōten Lakshmi.
Then diyas are lit, pujas are offered to Lakshmi, and to one or more additional deities depending on the region of
India, typically Ganesha, Saraswati, and Kubera.
Another story goes that God of wealth and the treasurer of all deities- Kubera, prayed to Goddess Lakshmi on this special day,
and was granted the gift of perpetual wealth and prosperity.
