France has seen deadly Heatwaves before.
But droughts, floods, Heatwaves, and fires have battered Australia for millennia.
Extreme weather events(floods, droughts, and Heatwaves) are increasing as global temperatures rise.
Heatwave Plan for England:
Protecting health and reducing harm from extreme heat and Heatwaves;
Even after all these measures,“Heatwaves would still happen but their impact would be reduced”.
The rising sea temperatures have also doubled the frequency of marine Heatwaves since 1982.
Both rich and poor countries have faced extensive damage from storms and Heatwaves this year.
If no effort is made to adapt to these Heatwaves, they could cause more deaths;
Cities are facing more Heatwaves, but not all strategies to keep us cool are equal.
If the world fails to contain global temperature rise,
India could see an eight-fold rise in Heatwaves.
Even in more temperate cities like London or Paris,
unexpected Heatwaves can kill hundreds and even thousands of people.
Europe also saw record Heatwaves- with researchers showing that climate change
likely doubled the chances of the events happening.
Given that Heatwaves are already considered Australia's deadliest climate-related disaster,
the forecast temperatures pose an urgent threat to human livelihoods.
We have had Heatwaves consistently every six weeks or over the past two or three years, even throughout winter.
And there are no alert and response systems or tools in place to ensure public health and
safety during Heatwaves.
For the next few decades at least, years with Heatwaves may be followed by one or more years without one.
The useful thing scientifically about Heatwaves is that we can estimate the role that climate
change plays in these individual events.
Summer Heatwaves are predicted to become more frequent and severe each year,
putting more people at risk of injury and death.
For example, the Heat Alert and
Response System combines meteorological forecasting of heat events and Heatwaves together with a response plan.
Based on this analysis, we found that Heatwaves at least as hot as this one are
now twice as likely to occur.
For example, start by explaining the impact of global warming on Heatwaves and then discuss the specifics of an individual event.
And if the temperature rises by 1 degree Celsius
then all of a sudden there could be 20 Heatwaves in five years.”.
And if the temperature rises by 1 deg C
then all of a sudden there could be 20 Heatwaves in five years.”.
It's accumulating rapidly in the atmosphere,
warming the planet and making storms, Heatwaves and droughts an increasing problem for people in many places.
Adelaide set a record maximum temperature for the nation's capital cities of 46.6°C last week and
there have been extreme Heatwaves around Australia.
In some instances, it is going to be like the Heatwaves that are going to be more characteristic,
more frequent and more intense.
The northern hemisphere faces the prospect of more persistent Heatwaves, with the probability of fortnight-long warm periods increasing
by 4 per cent on average.
This increased frequency of Heatwaves shows a strong trend in observations,
which is set to continue as the human influence on the climate deepens.
Australia had extreme Heatwaves both early and late in the year,
and in South America, temperatures exceeded 30℃ as far south as Tierra del Fuego.
Failure to heed these warnings and take drastic action to reverse emissions means we will continue to witness deadly and
catastrophic Heatwaves, storms, and pollution.
