Even though India's 2017 Ghi score- 31.4- has improved over
the years, its hunger problem remains categorized as“serious.”.

India was ranked 102 out of 117 countries with the Ghi score of 30.3, down from its 2018 position of 95.

The Ghi report comes after the latest 2015-16 National Family Health Survey(NFHS)
and cities three points of concern for child nutrition from the NFHS.

India is at the 103rd place in the list of 119 countries.

and index scores from this table cannot be accurately compared to rankings and index scores from previous reports.”.
The Ghi is only indicative of undernourishment
and not hunger per se and that also based largely on data of children under the age of five.
The Ghi is mostly based on the proportion of the country's
malnourished child population and only 9.6% of children(6-23 months) were fed with a minimum acceptable diet.

India ties with Djibouti and Rwanda for the 100th rank, and with a score of 31.4 of 100(with 0 being best and 100 the worst),
India's 2017 Ghi falls at the high end of the“serious” category.
As can be seen, in 2015, the Ghi score was 29.0 which improved to 28.5 in 2016.
The following year, there was a plunge, with the score at 31.4. This improved subsequently to 31.1 in 2018 and 30.3 in 2019.
Despite India's considerable improvement over the past quarter-century- its Ghi rating has risen from 32.6 in 1990 to 21.3 in 2013-
the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization believes that 17% of Indians are still too undernourished to lead a productive life.
