Because of the imminent risk of the building collapsing, in 1853 the Museum was transferred to the Palace of Ministers, Godoy's old house until 1807, next to the current Senate Palace,
in the Plaza de la Marina Española, reopening to the public on 27 November of the aforementioned year of 1853,
with the assistance of Queen Elizabeth and the members of the Government.
