Also,"private players" were roped in to run some trains,
and an announcement regarding Corporatisation of railway public sector undertakings was made.
Under Corporatisation, an existing activity
or asset is separated from the Indian Railways and handed over to a new public sector company.
There has been a strike by defence employees, telecom employees, railway workers(against Corporatisation), bank employees and officers,
steel workers and scheme workers.
But the government insists that Corporatisation will lead to greater penetration for India in the defence export
market and innovation for self-reliance in defence.
Apart from opposing privatisation of PSUs,
the trade unions are also opposing the privatisation in railways, Corporatisation of 49 defence production units
and forced merger of banks.
Railways: Rail workers all over the country are agitating against the“100 day action plan” of the government for the Corporatisation and privatisation of the Indian railways.
The government is misleading people by claiming that only ownership is being transferred from one public sector to
another public sector company and therefore Corporatisation is not privatisation.
We oppose the 100 Day Action Plan announced by the Railway Minister as regards privatisation of the running of
existing passenger trains of Indian Railways, Corporatisation of the 7 production units of the Indian Railways
and raising of passenger fares.
