Chaiten, which is actually a feeder vent from Michinmahuida rather than a separate volcano,
finally erupted in early May 2008.
In November 2016 I spent a week in Chaiten with a group of other volcanologists from around the world to meet
some of the inhabitants of the town, to see the volcano crater and deposits of its eruptive products, and to see the aftermath of this eruption and the clear-up operation several years on.
