Cephas, or Peter. -
John 1: 42; 1 Corinthians 1: 12.
And that he was seen by Cephas, and after that by the eleven.
The apostle Peter is named in five different ways - Symeon, Simon,
Peter, Cephas, and Simon Peter.
In fact, he, Cephas( Peter),
and John“ seemed to be pillars”- strong, solidly fixed supporters of the congregation.
There James, Cephas( Peter),
and John recognized that he had been empowered to be an apostle to the nations.
The name“Peter” comes from the Aramaic word Kepha(or Cephas), meaning“Rock.”
Jesus chose to give the Apostle Simon this new name at Caesarea Philippi for symbolic reasons.
He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him, and said,"You are Simon the son of Jonah.
You shall be called Cephas" which is by interpretation, Peter.
Paul wrote:“ We have authority to lead about a sister as a wife,
even as the rest of the apostles and the Lord's brothers and Cephas[ Peter], do we not?”.
For all things are yours, 22 whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future-
all are yours, 23 and you are Christ's, and Christ is God's.
Evidently, most of the apostles were married men, as Paul acknowledged with the words:“ We have authority to lead about a sister as a wife,
even as the rest of the apostles and the Lord's brothers and Cephas, do we not?”.
This is because most, if not all, of them were married. Thus the apostle Paul explained:“ We have authority to lead about a sister as a wife,
even as the rest of the apostles and the Lord's brothers and Cephas, do we not?”.
