Briers Suns understand, just singing;
The best of them is like a brier,
But whatever brings forth thorns and Briers is rejected, and is closest to what is accursed;
Verse 4:“The best of them is like a brier, the most upright of them a thorn hedge.”.
The brier and the thorn hedge are plants that can snag clothing
and rip the flesh. Micah was here describing the moral decay of the nation in his day.
For wickedness burns like a fire. It devours the Briers and thorns; yes,
it kindles in the thickets of the forest, and they roll upward in a column of smoke.
For wickedness burneth as the fire: it shall devour the Briers and thorns, and shall kindle in the thickets of the forest,
and they shall mount up like the lifting up of smoke.
And on all hills that shall be digged with the mattock,
there shall not come thither the fear of Briers and thorns: but it shall be for the sending forth of oxen,
and for the treading of lesser cattle.
